At Home With The Ashtons, 2011
Based in the Bloomsbury Studio, these paintings present a romanticised depiction of the early stages of my relationship with my wife. Taking inspiration from Dutch genre paintings, I have used this genre construct to divide and view our lives: work, sex, food, drink, bathing. In these domestic activities we see something universal yet personal and intimate, and here they have been idealised to elevate from the mundane to the beautiful.
